This North Texas man lives by volunteering and encourages others to do the same.

Caleb Wood spends his time volunteering at Trusted World in Garland and doesn’t let health issues limit him.

GARLAND, Texas. At the far end of Easy Street in Garland lives a child who has had a hard time.

“I don’t like focusing on health issues because they don’t stop me from living my life,” said 21-year-old Caleb Wood.

When he was eight years old, doctors discovered a tumor in Wood’s brain. He was excised, but in the end two tumors returned. The operation later ended in a stroke.

The doctors said there was nothing more they could do.

“My life is in God’s hands and I honestly can’t think of a better place to have it,” Wood said.

It is this belief that drives Wood. A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Wood began serving a mission in North Texas a couple of years ago.

He spends a lot of time volunteering at Trusted World in Garland.

“It just brings a little joy to my heart every time I come here,” Wood said.

Trusted World is a non-profit organization that provides clothing, food, and other essentials to people and organizations that serve those in need.

Wood volunteers at Trusted World several times a week and would like to do more.

He is limited, of course, not by the disease, but by the audience.

Wood believes everyone should volunteer, especially at Trusted World, and said the news is a great place to hire.

That is why he insisted that this story should not be about his condition.

“True,” he said. “I really would like to focus on bringing people to Trusted World.”

He may have brain tumors, but death is the last thing on his mind.

“He can see the rainbow when the sky is at its darkest overhead,” said Wood’s mom, Andy Wood. “And he gives this rainbow and this light to everyone he comes in contact with.”

He is truly a ray of light.

But Wood admits he feels a little selfish at times.

“By helping others, I get much more than I can give to someone else,” he said.

His good deeds aside, it’s no wonder Wood was caught off guard when D Magazine named him North Texas Volunteer of the Year.

Of course, during his acceptance speech, he took the opportunity to recruit volunteers.

“Volunteer, man,” he said as the crowd erupted into smiles and laughter.

It’s hard to say how many people Wood has inspired and how many he will inspire.

“I think that’s why he’s still here,” said Andy Wood. “I think he still has people to touch and bless.”

“I can sacrifice my time to be someone’s earth angel,” Caleb said. “It’s the greatest feeling in the world.”

This is proof that in order to truly live, you just need to give.
