“This is scary. My mom is afraid”: an elderly couple is afraid to stay in their house on cypress trees after the shooting

CYPRESS, Texas – For the past four nights, an elderly couple has been avoiding sleeping in their home on Cypress after Harris County Sheriff’s Detectives believe a random truck driver fired on their home.

It happened near FM 529 and Fry Road shortly before 9 am on Thursday 2 March.

Video from a neighbor’s security camera shows a black truck slowly driving down Cypress Prairie Drive and turning onto Lantern Springs Lane.

The video then shows the driver waiting near a traffic light for almost a minute before continuing. After that, it seems that someone from the passenger side of the car starts firing a gun towards the house of Hoang Le’s parents.

“He’s scared,” Le said, pointing to her father. “My mother is afraid. This is unreasonable.

The bullet remains stuck in the car in the driveway.

He told her that the bullets went through the garage door, the wall and into the bedroom.

“Every night my parents can’t sleep here,” Le said.

His parents spent the night with his sister.

He told her that he didn’t want to think the worst, but he feared that his parents might have been targeted for being Vietnamese.

“Maybe it’s a hate crime, because there’s been a lot of hate crimes against Asians already,” he said. “I have to think about it, because this is my parents’ life,” Le said.

He tells her that her parents are the only Asian Americans in the community.

“I feel sorry for them. They are a quiet couple,” neighbor Andres Pinto said. “We always say hello in the mailbox. Again nonsense.

Senior Deputy Thomas Gilliland of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office told Rilvan Balogun of KPRC 2 that investigators are looking into the casings through the National Incident Report Database to see if they are related to other crimes.

Gilliland adds that the office will run security video through the HighTech Crime team to see if investigators can remove the video to make out the truck’s license plate.
