Thierry Despont’s dazzling New York townhouse can now be yours – for less

World-renowned designer Thierry Despont has worked on a number of high-profile projects throughout his career, such as the restoration of the Statue of Liberty, the $450 million renovation of the Ritz Paris Hotel, and the interiors of New York’s exclusive 220 Central Park South condominium.

But apart from his professional life, the buyer can now live like him. Despont has lowered the asking price for his glossy Tribeca home. Once asking for $24.99 million, it’s now up for sale for $19.49 million.

The charming five-story townhouse at 182 Franklin Street was built in 1915 and is entitled to a sixth floor. Despont, who bought the townhouse 25 years ago, has turned it into an eclectic and colorful Mecca that reflects his personal style. He also offers the buyer his design services for an undisclosed additional fee.

The 10,000-square-foot home opens onto a foyer that leads to stairs and an elevator.

The back of the ground floor is currently configured as an artist’s studio, but could also be a children’s playroom, media room, or even a swimming pool, the listing notes.

The master bedroom occupies the entire third floor and includes a marble bathroom, walk-in closet, sauna and plenty of storage space. The formal dining room on the fourth floor can also be converted into a billiard room adjoining the kitchen. There is also a great room on the fifth floor with 15-foot ceilings.

Design details also include two wine cellars, three gas fireplaces and a laundry room in the basement. The area is home to residents such as Taylor Swift, who spent about $50 million to assemble houses at 155 Franklin and 153 Franklin, Gimme Shelter previously reported.

The dashing French designer has also listed his $23.5 million home in the Hamptons for sale. No comment as to why he’s selling one of them or where he’s going to go.

The list is with Reuben Schatz Douglas Elliman, Alexander Boriskin, Cameron Begg and Michael Lorber.
