They’re going to give us orders, Lee County thinks ahead of city council elections.

LEE COUNTY, Florida — City Council elections are fast approaching for those who live in Sanibel and the Estero area.

Many on Sanibel are still waiting for the mobile post office on the Island. As they wait, it raises concerns about the mail-in voting process, which led Lee County’s election observer to consider the city council election.

Tommy Doyle, head of elections, says they’ll do something that’s normally not allowed: “Forward our votes by parcel post,” forcing the county to go to the governor’s office: “They’re going to give us an executive order to do this so that those who were moved and forwarded their addresses were still getting their mail,” Doyle told Fox 4.

But Doyle wanted to remind residents across Lee County that the mail-in voting request expired in 2022 after the general election and that you need to renew your request by February 25, 2023.

If you forget to renew, Doyle says you can vote for Sanibel on Election Day at the Sanibel Recreation Ground.
