The woman escaped the kidnappers by driving off in their truck with her hands tied, police said.

A woman held hostage in Vermont managed to escape by driving away in the suspects’ car, although her hands were still tied and her face was partially covered.

Since then, two people have been arrested in connection with the restriction of the woman’s freedom.

Witnesses from the town of St. Johnsbury called the police on the morning of 23 February after seeing a woman driving a truck suspiciously. Her hands were bound with duct tape and her head was partially covered with a bag of duct tape.

After talking with the woman, the police found that she was taken hostage and broke free.

Vermont State Police said the woman was picked up on the side of the road by a man and a woman. Police did not say if the man and woman knew the victim.

Police said the man and woman forcibly tied the victim in their truck and held her there for several hours, threatening her life.

At some point, the victim was left alone in the truck and was able to escape.

Police said she was able to break free enough to start moving and drove about 15 miles to St Johnsbury where she was eventually intercepted by police.

The next day, police arrested Mac Vernum, 45, and Nicole Cloutier, 36, who they believed were holding the woman hostage.

Police did not elaborate on why the two suspects tried to kidnap the woman.

Both Vernum and Cloutier were charged with kidnapping, unlawful restraint, and aggravated assault.

Vernum is also charged with attempted murder in the first degree.

This story was reported from Detroit.
