The suspect is already facing legal challenges due to abuse while stalking his ex-girlfriend, who is now accused of tracking her with AirTag, officials said.

HOUSTON – A man who investigators say held his pregnant girlfriend against her will with handcuffs and then violated bail and two protection orders is now charged with tracking the same woman with an apple air tag.

KPRC 2 legal counsel Brian Weiss commented on the cases against 26-year-old Romeo Jerome Frank.

“This defendant is entitled to the benefit of the doubt, just like any other defendant charged with any other crime,” Weiss said. “Make no mistake, he exhibited an escalating behavior pattern that suggests he may be a suicide bomber awaiting punishment.”

On July 28, 2022, Frank was accused of handcuffing his girlfriend, who was then seven months pregnant, for several hours during an argument. He was charged with illegal detention.

The woman also received a temporary protection order against Frank.

On August 7, 2022, Frank allegedly violated orders by contacting the woman again.

“Protection orders can be effective at one level, but bullets go through them,” Weiss said.

Court documents show that Frank continued to have contact with the victim for several months, despite the fact that another final protection order was issued.

In December, he was charged with violating a protection order or bail.

“Hopefully the fact that he’s been charged with a misdemeanor for which he’s serving time in prison will finally get his attention,” Weiss said.

But the accusations continued after being charged with a felony.

The woman told police that she had recently found an Apple AirTag that investigators determined Frank had placed in her car in late January to track her.

Now he is also accused of illegally installing a tracking device.

“His model of escalating criminal behavior should scare everyone,” Weiss said.

WIce added that a felony alone could put Frank behind bars for several years if found guilty.

As mentioned in previous stories about the victims who were persecuted during our Break Free Initiative, there is a free app called BLE Scanner which stands for Bluetooth Low Energy Scanner. This can help you find tracking devices near you.

Camila Thomas, LCSW-S, founder and CEO of KBT Counseling and Consulting, gave the following advice to victims of stalking.

1. Report the situation to law enforcement and explore protection order options.

2. Find a safe alternative place to live where the perpetrator is unlikely to find you.

3. Notify your employer, close family members, and your child’s school, as the offender will usually go to regular places to find you.

4. Choose different routes to work, home and school.

5. Visit Domestic Violence Hotline.
