The Owner of the Kitchen Spas Learned a Love for Cooking from His Grandmother

ORLANDO, Florida. – Sevarest Allen, chef and owner of Kitchen Savior, started learning to cook at the age of 8.

“My grandmother, I say, taught me everything,” Allen said. “(I) sort of went into the kitchen with her and she said, ‘Sevarrest, watch the pots. Don’t let my food burn.”

This was his introduction to cooking, but he didn’t always plan on making it his career.

“So what happened was that I was preparing for the fact that I would be fired from my job,” Allen said. “They did us a favor and said, ‘Hey guys, we’re going to fire you now.’ So, I was recently engaged, and around the time I got fired, it was probably about a month or so before I was supposed to get married. So my wife says, “You should consider going to culinary school.” I’m like, “Well, why would I do that?”

Despite his skepticism, Allen ended up visiting Le Cordon Bleu in Orlando. Shortly after he began his education there, Allen also began working at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort.

“I got a job there, and that’s where my legitimate culinary journey began, because by working there, you get to work with different chefs from all over the world,” he said.

While working there, Allen helped chefs develop menus of food for the soul. However, he said that the moment he realized he had done it, he was put in charge of catering for 1,100 guests.

“I remember the chef saying, ‘Hey, what are you doing for the BBQ, we’ll keep it handy,'” Allen said. “That was when I thought, ‘Cool. I can do it.'”

Allen’s culinary career has opened up many exciting opportunities for him, including cooking for musicians such as Sir Paul McCartney and The Rolling Stones.

Allen met Eric John, owner of Untouchables Catering. Through John, Allen worked on cooking for the Republican National Convention in 2012.

John approached Sevarrest again when the Stones were playing a gig in Orlando.

“He legitimately calls and says, ‘Hey, I have the Rolling Stones,'” Allen said.

The group was so impressed with the food that they invited him to join the tour.

“I’ll tell you, my wife was pregnant at the time — like (she could give birth) at any moment. So I thought, “Hey, listen. Do not you mind? I might be gone for a week,” Allen said.

She agreed, and Allen hit the road with the Rolling Stones.

In the end, the chef decided to act on his own. He opened his personal chef, cooking and catering, Kitchen Savior.

In the latest issue of Florida Foodie, Allen discusses how he came up with the name for his business and how it affects his personal faith. He also talks about his work with Parramore Kidz Zone and the person he would most like to cook for.
