A dozen performers from around the world, including master jugglers, musicians, aerial acrobats and more, take visitors back in time with a 1950s theme. But this show has a unique theatrical style big top.

“We have a water stage, so we are an exclusive circus, because we have a water stage. No one in the US has a road water scene. Part of the stage rises, and water flows from below,” said Margarita Denisova, soloist of Cirque Italia.

Denisova is 23 years old, and during the show she performs aerial and unicycle exercises. She was trained in circus life at an early age.

“I am from Ukraine, and in Ukraine it is very popular to have a circus school. We even have a college where you can learn from circus performers and learn how to play, dance and other skills. So I became a circus artist, ”said Denisova.

Denisova said the opportunity to perform in front of families brings her joy, but she can’t help but worry about her family back home in war-torn Ukraine.

“You never know when is the last time you talk to your family. The situation is very bad, because missiles destroy everything,” Denisova said. “My family is happy that I’m here because they know I’m safe, but that doesn’t mean I’m not worried about them.”

Denisova said the people at Cirque Italia helped her deal with the situation.

“We become more like a family, because when you see people all the time, every day, you are already like a family,” Denisova said.

Cirque Italia does not stay in one place for long. The show usually lasts for several days, then the circus gathers and moves to a new city.

The busy schedule of performances and constant traveling can sometimes be difficult, but Denisova says she can’t imagine anything else.

Her motivation? Bringing smiles to those who attend the show.

“I love it when we have a full house because it’s a room full of emotions and I’m glad to see everyone. Children come, they are so excited, they jump,” Denisova said. “Sometimes they sit with their mouths open saying wow because everything moves, it’s beautiful.”
