The Minnesota Twins will honor the first lifeguards of Lee County during the home opening at Hammond Stadium.

FORT MYERS, Florida. Ahead of tomorrow’s (Saturday, February 25) Grapefruit League 2023 Home Opening at Hammond Stadium, the Minnesota Twins are honored and greeted by the many organizations and first responders whose tireless and dedicated work is helping to restore Lee County in the aftermath of Hurricane Yan.

Just before the Twins host the Tampa Bay Rays at 1:05 p.m., the club recognizes a special starting lineup of heroic individuals and organizations; then everyone will enter the field in their positions.

• Right field: Kathleen McCloskey, chef at World Central Kitchen, partnered with the club to use the Twins’ Academy at the Lee County Sports Complex to prepare and serve over 1 million meals, which were then served throughout southwest Florida.

• In the right place, too: Rebecca Busby, Director of Community Cooperative Food Programs, has distributed thousands of meals across the region.

• Center Field: Jean Rogers of the South Trail Fire Department will represent all local firefighters.

• Left field: Ed Matthews, Principal of Fort Myers South High School, represents all local orphanages and schools.

• Third Base: Capt. Chris Wittman, co-founder of Captains for Clean Water, who will represent efforts to clean up the waterways.

• Priority: Sabrina Gorton, Chief Emergency Nurse Lee, who represents all nurses, physicians, and medical staff.

• Second Base: Denise Vidal, Executive Vice President and CEO of the Lee County Electric Cooperative (LCEC), representing all the energy and water companies that have been working to reopen their communities.

• First Base: Jason Guff of Lee County Emergency Medical Services will be joined by his daughter, Madison Andrews, who will represent EMTs from across Florida.

• Trapper: Deputy Javon Matthews of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office representing all local law enforcement agencies.

• Pitcher: Lee County Commissioner and Chairman Brian Hamman on behalf of all Lee County agencies who continue to work every day for the region’s ongoing recovery.
