The judge assigns an outside expert to assess the competence of the defendant in the Santa Fe school shooting.

An outside expert will assess Dimitrios Pagurtzis’ mental state to determine if he is now ready to stand trial.

The case is currently being handled by newly elected Judge Jet Jones in the 122nd Circuit Court.

During a school shooting in 2018, ten people were killed and 13 injured.

At the time, Pagurtzis was a 17-year-old student at Santa Fe High School.

The survivors and families of the victims have been waiting for trial for almost five years.
