The Huntington Film Center presents a lineup of critically acclaimed classic films

The Huntington Film Center has an incredible lineup of world-famous classic film screenings coming up over the next few months.

The first is Chantal Ackerman’s legendary 1975 film Jeanne Dielman, 23 Quai Commerce 1080 Brussels, which last year was voted the best film of all time in a prestigious Sight and Sound poll.
Later this month, join us for screenings of your favorite classics like Sunset Boulevard, The Big Lebowski, and the 90th Anniversary Special Screening of King Kong. This spring, we’ll screen greats on the silver screen, including David Lean’s Doctor Zhivago, Elia Kazan’s The Waterfront, Woody Allen’s Annie Hall, and Billy Wilder’s Only Girls in Jazz.
The full lineup looks like this:

international cinema

Zhanna Dilman, 23 years old, 1080 Commerce Embankment, Brussels.

Recently voted the best film ever made in a 10-year BFI poll, Chantal Ackerman’s masterpiece is a one-of-a-kind piece that painstakingly and with a sense of impending doom details the daily routine of a middle-aged widow (Delphine Seyrig) whose duties include making a bed, cooking lunch for my son and sometimes doing tricks. Ackerman’s film seems simple, but it covers the whole world. Whether viewed as a thorough character study or one of cinema’s most hypnotic depictions of space and time, it’s an amazing, compelling film.

The results of the 2022 Sight and Sound Greatest Films of All Time poll have been released.

The Coen Brothers

The Big Lebowski

with an introduction by film historian Glenn Andreev

Call him The Dude, His Dude, Duder or El Dudorino, Jeff Bridges plays the man who spearheaded a new way of life. A case of misidentification takes the unforgettable laid-back white Russian fan into a hilariously hazy and hallucinatory spiral through Los Angeles. All Jeff “The Dude” Lebowski wants to do is go bowling, but when he gets mistaken for a big L.A. millionaire Lebowski and a couple of thugs pee on his carpet – “it really ties the room together!” — he’s forced into action, and so the laziest man in LA County takes on nihilists, ferrets, and imperial tycoons, all the while devouring white Russians. The dude lives, he is helped and hindered by his buddies Walter Sobchak (John Goodman), a Vietnam veteran, and Donnie (Steve Buscemi), a master of stupidity. The unstoppable cult classic of the Coen Brothers has inspired countless bowling and drinking parties and even its own festival, and we’re excited to bring it back to the Film Center. Part bum comedy, part neo-noir, you’ll want to skip a night of bowling for a Coen Brothers masterpiece.
