‘The Delivery Man’ briefly interrupts a college basketball game in a bizarre scene

Was he going to deliver a McDonald’s to someone on the court? one of the TV presenters remarked when a strange scene played out.

PITTSBURGH. The moment that went viral when an Uber Eats driver wandered onto the court during a college basketball game may have been part of a prank.

The video showed the alleged courier roaming the court on Wednesday night in the midst of a Duquesne-Loyol game in Chicago, briefly stopping the game and amused the announcers.

“Someone has entered the floor from the far side,” one of the announcers remarked as the strange scene unfolded. “For delivering Uber Eats or something like that? I think he’s driving McDonald’s. I’m not really kidding. I think that’s what’s happening.”

Was he going to deliver a McDonald’s to someone on the court? another commenter asked. – Can we rule it out?

The interruption came when a man in a bright yellow jacket entered the court with a bag of McDonald’s in one hand and a glass of soda in the other early in the second half of the game.

“Maybe I’ll raise my hand, I’m a little hungry.” joked one of the announcers.

But the viral moment ridiculed by commentators on the game and online may have been intended that way.

Video from court monitors shows what appears to be a toilet microphone attached to the “courier’s” shirt. Lav microphones are typically used to record sound without drawing attention to the equipment.

Austin Hansen, assistant director of athletics at Loyola, tweeted that he thought it was a YouTube or TikTok joke because many students were also filming the moment on their phones.

Hansen added that he would “personally take on the case” of anyone who tried to repeat it in the future.

“Just let the athletes play the game without worrying about getting hurt by a vagrant courier,” he wrote.

While a video showing the entire meeting from an insider’s perspective has yet to surface, content creators on TikTok and Youtube often create bizarre situations to draw in viewers.

The spectacle on the court would definitely fit that narrative.

The man entered the court just as the game began to move to another basket, but a few seconds later the referees called a time-out to find out what was happening.

The man almost collided with the player when he entered the court. Although he was eventually taken away by the referee, the moment went viral on social media.

Abby Schnable, who covers basketball for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, tweeted that a videoboard later showed a student in the stands cheering for the food.

“Oh, he got it, he got the delivery!” one of the announcers exclaimed as the camera tracked the apparent delivery transmission. “This guy thinks he’ll get a tip.”
