The community of Las Lomas is now under an evacuation warning

LAS LOMAS, CA (KION-TV): Selena Corona may not live in Las Lomas, but her family does.

She said she was worried that her family might go through what the Pajaro community went through last weekend.

“The evacuation warning is stressful, especially when our neighboring community, Paharo, has just been flooded.” Corona said.

Monterey County said they are working with other agencies to stabilize the breach that caused flooding in Pajaro.

“The water agency and the state and government contractor that deals with these kinds of emergencies — KW Emerson works there,” said Glenn Church, Monterey County Superintendent for District 2. “They are laying riprap to try to protect this . “

But Supervisor Church said there could be problems securing the dam because there would be more rain along the way. The goal is to stabilize the initial break by the end of Monday.

Residents of Las Lomas said that although they have not been hit by major floods for several years, they are always worried about it. One Pajaro store owner said he was worried about the money he was losing due to the flood.

“My goods and equipment were damaged.” said Hector Lamas, owner of the Pajaro business.

Lamas said he plans to meet with county officials on Wednesday to voice his concerns about future flooding.
