The coldest wind in the US may have just been recorded

Unofficially, a new wind chill record could be set in the US. Chilly winds on Mount Washington in New Hampshire dropped to at least 108 degrees below zero on Friday night. The current record is 105 degrees below zero at Howard Pass, Alaska.

Mount Washington is the highest peak in the northeastern United States at 6,288 feet. The mountain is known for some of the most extreme weather on the planet, but it’s astounding even by summit standards.

The actual air temperature dropped to at least 47 degrees below zero with sustained winds of over 100 mph.
