The Botanical Garden of Naples holds the prescribed fire

COLLIER COUNTY, Florida. Today, the Botanical Garden of Naples set the prescribed fire on one acre of land. The fire started at 9:45 am and will be extinguished by the end of the day.

Garden staff will keep an eye on the flames to make sure no hot spot goes unnoticed.

Fire is an essential tool that promotes new plant growth and reduces the amount of plant material that can start wildfires.

Garden employees have been preparing for the fire scheduled for today for two years. Measures have been taken to ensure safety during a fire. This includes firebreaks to contain the flames and removing low growing branches to keep the fire from rising up.

Fire personnel will be on site throughout the day assisting land managers in carrying out the prescribed burning.
