The Best Country Dance Spots in Austin

Broken Spoke may have gained national attention thanks to the Netflix series Queer Eye, but it’s not the only place to dance country style in Austin. In fact, some might argue that the other places on this list are even better!

Here are the best country dance spots in Austin!

Broken spoke
3201 South Lamar Boulevard

As mentioned, Broken Spoke was featured in the first episode of Season 5, Queer Eye. Terry White teaches traditional two-step along with some western swing and cotton-eyed Joe, which is the only line dance allowed on the dance floor. . Classes are held from Wednesday to Saturday from 20:00 to 21:00. It’s best to arrive by 7:30 pm to enroll because classes fill up fast! Dance lessons cost $10 + entry fee.

White horse
500 Comal Street

Thanks to Austin’s best dancers, you can learn to boogie-woogie at the White Horse. Their free lessons are great for beginners, practice, and just for fun! Learn Two-Step Texan Thursday through Saturday at 7:00 PM. Intermediate two-stage classes are held on the first and third Monday of the month at 19:00.

Little longhorn saloon
5434 Burnet Road

Start entertaining after bar work on Tuesdays and Wednesdays when The Little Longhorn Saloon hosts free Two-Step dance lessons with Austin Honky Tonkers. Beginners classes are on Tuesdays and Intermediate classes are on Wednesdays from 19:00 to 20:00. There is no entry fee. Please be mindful of the rules of conduct on the dance floor, including tipping staff, not giving drinks on the dance floor, being an observant dancer, and showing appreciation to the group by buying merchandise, tipping, cheering, hooting, screaming, and buying them a drink of their choice. Sagebrush
5500 Congress Avenue

Double or Nothing Two-Step is offered at Sagebrush on a donation basis or through private lessons. According to their website, the duo teachAustin honky-tonk two-stage‘ and, like any regional dialect, they have a distinct swagger and style. Depot Donna
1600 W 5th Street

Austin’s most unique nightlife is located at the old Missouri Pacific Railroad Depot. Donn’s Depot doesn’t have two-step lessons, but the dance floor is open every night of the week. If you’re lucky, you’ll find someone to spin you around on this floor with live music, often performed by Donn himself!

Located south of Austin, Buck’s has been in business since 2017. It is owned and operated by veterans of the restaurant and entertainment industry and you can look forward to a relaxed and fun time at Buck’s Backyard. With 15 acres of fun, relaxed, family and dog friendly space, there is something for everyone, including country dancers! Buck’s has live music every Friday and Saturday all year round so follow their events page for the night you can actually wear your boot.

Hudson on Mercer
381 Mercer Street, Dripping Springs

You’ll find Hudson’s on Mercer Street in Dripping Springs. One stop shop for music lovers, they don’t offer dance lessons but they do have music lessons. Even without classes, this is a great place on a Friday or Saturday night to listen to country music mixed with the best of pop and rock. As expected, you’ll get a little bit of everything on the dance floor too.

Grun Hall
1281 Gruene Road, New Braunfels

Gruene Hall is the oldest dance hall in Texas, so of course you’ll find two steppers here any night of the week. They even offer free music on most weeknights. And if you want to listen to the best country artists in a secluded place, you are here! Musicians who have recently performed at Gruene Hall include Miranda Lambert, Casey Musgraves, Leanne Rimes, Lyle Lovett, Emmylou Harris and Scotty McCreery.
