The 12-year-old actress was excluded from the nomination for the Razzie Awards due to criticism

The Golden Raspberry Awards removed 12-year-old Pyro actress Ryan Kira Armstrong from this year’s Worst Actress nomination.

“In light of the feedback (which we agreed with), the Razzie Awards will not include Ryan Kiera Armstrong on the final ballot,” Twitter said Tuesday.

The awards are a satirical ceremony dedicated to the worst of cinematic failures.

In a statement to Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter, John Wilson, co-founder of the Razzie Awards, apologized for including the actress on his list.

“Recent well-founded criticism of the selection of 11-year-old (sic) Armstrong as a nominee for one of our awards has brought our attention to how insensitive we have been on this occasion,” Wilson said, responding to widespread criticism over the nomination. “As a result, we have removed Armstrong’s name from the final ballot that our members will vote on next month. We also believe that Ms. Armstrong owes a public apology and would like to say that we are sorry for any pain she has experienced as a result of our choice. .”

Wilson said that The Razzies have learned from this lesson and have adopted voting rules in the future to bar any performer or director under the age of 18 from competing for the award.

“We never intended to bury anyone’s career. That is why our Redeemer Award was created. We all make mistakes, including us,” Wilson continued. “Because our motto is “Accept your bad,” we understand that we ourselves must live up to it.”

Armstrong starred in the 2022 sci-fi horror film Pyro as Charlie McGee, made famous by Drew Barrymore in the original 1984 adaptation of Stephen King’s classic novel. She played the role alongside Zac Efron and Sidney Lemmon.

The actress began her professional acting career in 2017 playing the recurring role of Minnie Mae Barry on the Netflix series Ann with an E. Her other roles include The Art of Racing in the Rain, It: Chapter II, Gloria: Life on the Road, and Tomorrow’s War.

In 2021, Armstrong joined the cast of American Horror Story: The Double Feature as Alma Gardner, making history as the series’ first leading young actor, according to IMDB.

The Razzie “winners” will be “honored” on March 11, the day before the Oscars.
