That’s why your car can look like it just got out of a mud race.

Heavy rain, combined with the Texas terrain element, is an unpleasant sight for owners of previously washed cars.

Austin, Texas. Many Central Texas residents may have noticed that their cars suddenly had dust on them. But what caused it?

The storm system that brought gusty winds, hail and even heavy rain to parts of central Texas also brought dust from West Texas. Some areas also had a brief dust storm warning due to the wind that hit the system on Thursday evening.

This dust then settled during heavy rains on cars throughout the region, giving the illusion that many cars were competing in mud events.

Wind gusts of 50-60 mph were not limited to central Texas, as the larger country, which includes cities like San Angelo, was subject to similar wind gusts. As the system moved east, so did the dust, so the machines were covered in a dirty mess.

In addition, air quality was negatively impacted by dust, and the Austin area was placed at the “moderate” air quality threshold. Those who are sensitive to dust are advised to stay indoors.

We expect the dust to dissipate by the end of Friday, with warmer temperatures reaching 80 degrees on Saturday.
