Texas Southern University Listed in NBCU News Group NBCU Academy

HOUSTON – Texas Southern University has been named to the NBCU News Group Academy, according to the post.

HBCU will join 14 other colleges and universities as new academic partners.

“Journalists trained at Texas Southern University are leading the industry in markets across the country as multimedia content creators,” said Dr. Christian Ulasi, Acting Dean of the TSU School of Communications. “As we continue this important work, and as journalists continue to play an integral role in our society, we are proud to join the team of world-class journalists at NBCU to provide an even higher level of learning and hands-on learning for our students.”

NBCUniversal News Group Chairman Cesar Conde announced Wednesday that the NBCU Academy has increased its membership by 50%, with 15 new schools joining 30 participating colleges and universities.

From 2021 NBCU Academy Partners received funding, resources, training and development.

“This expansion is a direct result of the success we’ve had with our partners,” said Yvette Miley, Senior Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at NBCU News Group. “We are proud to build on the momentum of the past two years and continue to impact the program as we continue to grow in the western region.”

The NBCU Academy will offer a course in the basics of journalism for journalism students and media professionals. The free course aims to build a foundation for news gathering and storytelling through first-hand lectures and curricula produced by journalists and executives from NBC News, MSNBC, CNBC, and Noticias Telemundo. Through a series of online modules, the course will provide interactive scenarios and best practices on reporting fundamentals, journalistic ethics, interviewing skills and more, the release says.

“Partnerships are integral to fulfilling the University’s commitment to providing an excellent education for our students in and out of the classroom,” said TSU Vice President for Communications and Development. “We look forward to the transformative work that will come from this partnership with the NBCU Academy.”
