Texas reaches new all-time high in total jobs for 14 straight months

AUSTIN, Texas — Gov. Greg Abbott today celebrated the strength of the Texas workforce and economy following the Texas Labor Commission’s December jobs report that showed Texas once again surpassed its record for total jobs for the 14th straight month. With employers adding 29,500 nonfarm jobs in December and more than 650,000 for the year, total jobs in Texas hit a new high of 13,705,500 at the end of the year.

“Texas is leading the nation in offering businesses the freedom to thrive and grow,” Governor Abbott said. “Our skilled and growing workforce attracts people who create jobs. putting even more Texans on the path to prosperity. We live in a state of endless opportunity, and in the upcoming legislative session, we will continue to work together to keep Texas as the land of opportunity.”

Notable job gains in Texas in December included 12,700 jobs added in education and healthcare, 6,300 jobs added in financial activities, and 5,500 jobs added in manufacturing.
