HOUSTON — More than two dozen dogs and cats have been taken to the hospital. Houston SPCA after they were rescued from “terrible conditions” on the south side.

According to SPCA representatives, 11 dogs, eight puppies and seven cats were malnourished and suffering from various diseases.

The SPCA said the seven animals were found tied to wire kennels inside a “dirty 5 x 5 shed filled with feces and urine, piles of garbage and live cockroaches.”

Others were found tied to various objects on the property, in the garage or in the house, “with deplorable living conditions.”

According to the SPCA, they had no food or water and were soaked in urine.

Harris County Constable Precinct 1 worked with the Animal Cruelty Investigation Team to obtain an emergency animal rescue order.

They are treated by veterinarians and lovingly cared for by other staff.

If found guilty of animal cruelty, the owner could face up to two years in prison and a $10,000 fine, the SPCA said.
