Teenage musician Dorian “ZEV” Queller is remembered as exceptionally talented and hardworking.

Musician Ben Queller’s 16-year-old son died in a car accident, according to his family.

“I met Dorian when he was six years old and at that moment I thought this kid was amazing,” said Pablos Matiason, CEO of Dorian’s record label, The Noise Company. “He really is a unicorn.”

Kweller, an up-and-coming artist known as “ZEV”, followed in the footsteps of his father, Ben Kweller, a Dripping Springs musician who founded The Noise Company.

Matiason said that on Monday, the day of Dorian’s death, they exchanged text messages about all the important steps that were taking place in his career, such as his recent support from a skateboard company who wanted him on the cover of their catalog. , and discussing merchandise for his upcoming first show at SXSW.

“Just such talent in playing guitar, drums, keyboards, singing, producing, writing and mixing his own stuff,” Matiason said. “I mean, this guy, every time I came and saw him, he was either skateboarding with his friends, making everyone smile, making the whole room smile, or recording another song on his computer. I think we have probably two or three albums of material that is only on his hard drive.”

This is music that Matiason would like to release to the public someday.

“The scariest thing about it is watching such a wonderful family that has supported so many other musicians and communities that are forced to fight this,” said Ricky Hardy, VP of Donor and Community Engagement at the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians. . “I know this loss is felt not only by the Austin community, the music community here, or even just by Ben’s close friends and family – it extends to all the people the Queller family has touched and connected with.”

In his Instagram post, Ben Kweller wrote:

“I can’t seem to type this, but I… Our son, Dorian Zev Queller, was killed last night. He was only 16 and he was a real legend. The kindest, most gentle soul, a friend to all. You knew him, you know. We will never overcome it while we are here on earth. Please keep his spirit alive with your memories and the music he wrote: @reallyzev. Dorian Zev wrote and recorded songs every day. A real poet from the day he started talking. Only a few of his records were released, but he was on track and excited about his journey. He had so many plans!!! His first show came two weeks later at SXSW. My last message with him was about a merch he wanted to do. My little one was at the start and had so much life ahead of him… I have no idea why things like this happen. We are in complete shock and do not know what awaits us in the future. Lizzy, Judah and I have no idea how to deal with this disaster. Thank you for your prayers and support, and we apologize if we are slow in responding to messages.”

Dorian was also a band member at Dripping Springs High School.

A rep told FOX 7, “Our hearts go out to the Queller family and Dorian will always be a beloved part of the DSHS Tiger Band family.”

The family has since founded the Dorian Queller Memorial Foundation.

The money raised will go towards several projects, including building a statue or monument representing Dorian’s life and funding charitable contributions to various music and skateboarding organizations.
