Teenage calculator robbery breaks into NYC high schools and racks up $40,000: cops

A group of suspected teenagers are wanted by police for breaking into nearly a dozen high schools in the Bronx and stealing a stash of over $40,000 of calculators.

The NYPD has released a first look at high school thieves who have reportedly been breaking into schools in the area since early February.

Since Feb. 6, teenage thieves have been sneaking into schools in the middle of the night and, in most cases, escaping with academic tools worth in the thousands. Police believe they first attacked the NYC Charter High School for Architecture, Engineering and Construction Industries, where two suspects climbed the fire escape to break in and steal $6,900 worth of calculators.

There was almost a two-week break before police linked the suspects to the second robbery. On February 19, a group of four sneaked into the Bronx Regional High School around 2:30 AM. According to the police, this robbery brought one of the smallest incomes: only 1465 dollars in the form of calculators.

Police said the following weekend that teenagers broke into Morris High School twice, breaking through windows on February 25 and 26. Nothing of value was stolen, but the teenagers allegedly used a chair to smash several door windows inside the school. building.

Two subsequent robberies brought the biggest losses. Police believe that in the first two nights of March, suspects broke into Mott Haven Village High School with a couple who stole roughly $14,000 worth of calculators in a row.

On March 5, the three climbed over the security gate at the South Bronx Community Charter High School but were unable to enter the school after attempting to pick the lock on the side door.

Hours later, the three suspects returned to Morris High School, breaking a dining room window with a brick and gaining access to the school around 4:30 am. At least two of the group used a hammer to break windows on several floors of the school. The group was ultimately left without calculators, but caused approximately $15,000 in damage.

The latest robbery on Tuesday netted a pair of suspects $6,000 in calculators from Legacy College Preparatory High School. The couple had to smash the glass on the classroom door on the third floor to gain access.

Investigators suspect that the group of thieves is between 15 and 18 years old.
