July 4, 2024

TRENTON, NJ (MERCER)–In a significant development, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri disclosed today that a thorough investigation carried out by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force (MCHTF) and the Trenton Shooting Response Team has culminated in the apprehension of a Trenton resident for the fatal shooting of Samier Vincent.

The accused, Divon Ray, a 24-year-old individual hailing from Trenton, has been formally charged with one count of first-degree murder, along with eight counts of first-degree attempted murder and several weapons-related offenses, including the possession of weapons by certain individuals prohibited from doing so. Ray was taken into custody in Trenton on Wednesday, following which the prosecutor’s office has put forth a motion for his detention pending the trial.

The tragic incident unfolded a little after 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 23, 2024, when the Trenton police responded to a Shot Spotter activation for multiple rounds in the 100 block of Walnut Avenue. Upon reaching the scene, law enforcement officers discovered a total of four adult victims with gunshot wounds. The victims were expeditiously transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for urgent medical care. Regrettably, Samier Vincent, aged 30 and a Trenton resident, succumbed to his injuries sustained from a gunshot wound to the head/neck area on June 27. An adult male and an adult female victim, each with single gunshot wounds, were treated and subsequently discharged from the hospital. However, a 29-year-old female victim remains hospitalized in a serious condition.

The investigation into this incident remains ongoing, and the authorities urge anyone with pertinent information to reach out to MCHTF Detective Jennifer Eyster at (609) 989-6406 or Sgt. Roberto Reyes at (609) 256-0997. Additionally, information can be shared via email at [email protected].

It is critical to emphasize that despite the charges leveled against the individual, every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The legal proceedings in this case will shed further light on the circumstances surrounding this tragic event and provide justice for the victims and their families.
