Suspect Extradited to New Jersey for Sayreville Councilwoman’s Murder

**28-Year-Old Murder Suspect Extradited to New Jersey**

Sayreville, NJ – Rashid Ali Bynum, a 28-year-old man from Portsmouth, Virginia, has been extradited to New Jersey on July 27, 2023, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Chief Daniel Plumacker of the Sayreville Police Department.

The extradition follows an active and ongoing investigation into the murder of councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour, who was fatally shot on February 1, 2023, in the Parlin section of Sayreville, NJ. At approximately 7:22 P.M. that evening, authorities received a distressing 911 call reporting shots fired in the area of Samuel Circle. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered the lifeless body of Dwumfour, 30, in her vehicle. She had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

On May 30, 2023, Bynum was apprehended in Chesapeake City, Virginia, without incident. He now faces charges in connection with Dwumfour’s murder, including first-degree Murder, second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, and second-degree Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose. On July 27, 2023, Bynum was extradited to New Jersey and is currently being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional facility until his pre-trial detention hearing in Superior Court.
