Suffolk Sheriff to Open Intelligence Center at Correctional Facility

Suffolk County Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr. will be joined by elected officials, industry professionals and commissioners from partner corrections institutions to officially open the “Corrective Intelligence Center” (CIC) on a date to be determined in the very near future. . CIC is the first of its kind prison intelligence network that will share data, trends, best practices and potential threats across prisons and prisons.
To ensure the safety of the public, corrections officers, and inmates, this center will actively collect and disseminate information about smuggling, drugs, gang connections, and potential threats through this network of prisons and penitentiary systems in the New York and New Jersey area. Sheriff Toulon will announce nationwide and national expansion plans. The media is invited to launch the CIC, which is fully staffed by Corrections Intelligence Officers from the 6 original participating agencies who are trained to collect, analyze and disseminate the vast amount of intelligence received from the participating prison and penitentiary systems. The Center also includes remote participation for 20 additional counties in the New York State area.
Correctional intelligence is underused to solve crimes. Since taking office in 2018, the Sheriff of Toulon has expanded cooperation with local law enforcement to help solve cases using intelligence from Suffolk Corrections. CIC will expand this to assist in cases outside of Suffolk by sharing relevant information with task forces affiliated with the FBI, the US Marshalls, the Department of Homeland Security, the Suffolk County Police Department, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office and other police agencies.
