Suffolk DA: Babylon man sentenced to 16 years to life for burglary

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced that 58-year-old Jose Osorio of Babylon was sentenced today to 16 years in prison for a burglary he committed in 2022 while he was on parole for another crime.
“This defendant is a repeat offender whose story of being caught, served time in prison, and then paroled did not deter him from committing another burglary,” District Attorney Tierney said. “This verdict reaffirms our commitment to seek significant prison terms for repeat offenders to protect the citizens of Suffolk County.”
On November 30, 2022, Osorio pleaded guilty before Supreme Court Justice The Honorable Timothy P. Mazzei to burglary in the second degree, a Class C felony. He was represented by the Legal Aid Society.
According to evidence, on May 4, 2022, Osorio broke into a house in Babylon through a basement window and stole many things. One of the items he stole, a car key fob, was fitted with an Apple air tag that allowed the Suffolk County Police Department to track his whereabouts in close proximity to Osorio’s address. After further investigation, Osorio was arrested at a local pawn shop where he was trying to sell the proceeds of a burglary.
Following his arrest, Suffolk County Police Department officers returned additional proceeds from the burglary during a search of Osorio’s home.
Osorio’s criminal history includes two previous convictions for violent crimes. In 1995, he was convicted of second-degree burglary, for which he was sentenced to four to eight years in prison, and in 2003 he was convicted of attempted second-degree burglary, for which he was sentenced to 12 years of imprisonment. life in prison. Osorio was released under parole supervision in 2019.
The case was handled by Assistant District Attorney William L. Richards III of the Major Crime Bureau.
