Suffolk County Executive Bellone Announces Free Distribution of COVID-19 Testing Kits

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone today announced that the county will be hosting a free test kit and distribution of KN95 masks from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the lobby of the H. Lee Dennison Building, 100 Veterans Memorial, on January 24. Highway. Approximately 1,000 test kits and approximately 1,000 KN95 masks will be made available to residents.
All Suffolk County residents are encouraged to participate to receive kits for their families. Every resident has the right to receive two test kits for each family member. Test kits will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.
“While many of us have resumed daily life while living with COVID-19, it is still important that everyone has access to the tools available to prevent infection and spread,” said Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone. “As we continue to see new options, it’s clear that the availability of test kits is critical as we work to keep this virus under control.”
Dr Gregson Pigott, Suffolk County Health Commissioner, said: “Testing continues to be critical in slowing transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. When we test positive in the early stages of the disease, we have the opportunity to seek treatment to prevent the worst effects of contracting COVID-19, and we can limit the spread of the virus to others.”
Together with local municipalities, county legislators, the Suffolk County Police Department, community groups, nonprofits and other organizations, the county has distributed approximately 660,680 test kits to residents, including seniors, first responders and other vulnerable populations.
Suffolk Health is offering COVID-19 vaccines and boosters to all eligible Suffolk County residents. Childhood vaccinations are also offered to uninsured children. Passes are welcome.
