Suffolk County Community College becomes Amazon Educational Partner for Career Choice Program

Suffolk County College has been selected as Long Island’s first educational partner for the Amazon Career Choice program to give Amazon hourly employees access to Suffolk County Community College, the college and company announced.
“We are delighted to be the first in Long Island to partner with Amazon to offer this important opportunity. The Amazon Career Choice program is in line with Suffolk’s core mission of providing outstanding and affordable educational opportunities for all of the county’s residents. Our partnership with Amazon will allow us to engage a new audience of working students in either traditional college courses or career-oriented learning for in-demand jobs that will positively impact their lives and our communities,” said Suffolk Community College President Dr. Edward. Bonahue.
“It is important that everyone, regardless of their financial background, be given the opportunity to pursue a higher education,” said Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone. “That’s why I’m so proud that Suffolk County Community College has been selected as Long Island’s first educational partner for Amazon’s Career Choice Program. This partnership demonstrates the commitment of both the college and Amazon to provide students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the 21st century workforce.”
Bonahue said that while the new program has not yet been widely publicized, college representatives have already attracted new students from Amazon to the college for the spring 2023 semester.
The Amazon Career Choice Program is an educational benefit that empowers employees to learn new skills for a successful career at Amazon or elsewhere. The program is designed for individual students on their path to education through a variety of learning and development opportunities, including full college education, industry certifications designed for in-demand jobs, and basic skills such as English proficiency, high school diplomas and GED. In the US, the company is investing $1.2 billion to upgrade the skills of more than 300,000 employees by 2025 to help them find higher-paying and in-demand jobs.
The Amazon Career Choice Program has a rigorous selection process for third-party educator partners, selecting partners who are focused on helping employees through their education programs, helping them find employment, and generally offering education that leads to career success.

Suffolk County Community College is the largest community college in the State University of New York (SUNY) system, with over 20,000 credit students and over 7,500 non-credit students. The college offers over 100 degree and certificate program options.
The college has three campuses and two downtown centers: the Ammermann campus in Selden, New York; The Michael J. Grant campus is located in Brentwood, New York; East Campus in Riverhead, NY and city centers in Riverhead and Sayville.
