Study: Face masks had little to no effect on preventing the spread of COVID

SAN DIEGO (CUSI) – Surprise!

A new scientific review by 12 researchers from respected universities around the world suggests that widespread mask-wearing may have done little to nothing to contain the transmission of COVID-19.

If you remember, back in April 2020, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) required Americans aged two and over to wear a mask to protect themselves and others.

They never shared evidence, and anyone who offered masks didn’t work, as they said, was labeled as anti-mask and conspiracy theorist.

Here in San Diego, County Superintendent Nathan Fletcher oversaw enforcement of the county’s mask-wearing requirements, regularly promising their effectiveness as he required businesses to apply his unfair rules to their customers. San Diego County even fined and arrested people who disobeyed orders that were now proven to be ineffective and untenable.

President Biden even wore a mask outdoors alone throughout 2022.

The NY Post reports that a new study published by the Cochrane Library “examined the results of 78 randomized controlled trials to determine whether ‘physical interventions’, including face masks and handwashing, reduce the spread of respiratory viruses.”

When comparing the use of medical/surgical masks with wearing masks, the review found that “mask wearing may have little or no effect on the number of people who develop influenza-like illness/COVID-like illness (nine studies; 276,917 people). ; and probably has little or no effect on the number of people who have influenza/COVID confirmed by a lab test (six studies; 13,919 people).”

Dr. Kelly Victory, who has spoken about this on KUSI for three years, rejoins Good Morning San Diego to talk about the latest study.
