Student Conservation Association Seeks Houston Public Works Interns

The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is seeking local candidates for Houston Public Works internships with the potential for permanent employment. Eight internships are available. The intern will work in the Storm Water Management Division to provide vegetation management for the City of Houston.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Training in methods of mowing green spaces in the right of way of the city and on off-road drainage canals
  • Supervise and work side by side with certified herbicide application personnel
  • Connecting city staff to green stormwater infrastructure maintenance training opportunities.

INTERNSHIP INFORMATION:

  • February 6 – August 6, 2023
  • Living allowance: $600 per week (All benefits are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes)
  • AmeriCorps Educational Award of $3,247.50 for 900 hours in a 26-week position.
  • Only local candidates

REQUIREMENTS
It is SCA policy that all background checks required by AmeriCorps must return cleared results before work begins; this includes being fingerprinted for FBI verification. Otherwise, the AmeriCorps award will be removed or the start date will be delayed due to non-compliance.
