Statement by Governor Abbott on President Biden’s State of the Union Address

Austin, Texas – Governor Greg Abbott issued a statement this evening in response to President Joe Biden’s address to Congress:

“President Joe Biden showed tonight that states like Texas are leading the nation and Washington is following. He has announced initiatives to reduce the flow of deadly fentanyl into this country, but Texas has been fighting this surge ever since it opened our southern border to the soaring influence of Mexican drug cartels. In fact, enough fentanyl has been seized in Texas to kill every man, woman, and child in the United States. Texas also announced last year an effort to educate the public about the dangers of this horrific “One Pill Kills” campaign. Americans deserve strong action from our federal government to stop the flow of this deadly drug from entering our country, but to truly resolve the fentanyl crisis, President Biden must do what Texas has been trying to do in his absence. to secure our southern border.
