St. Lucie County Considers Installing CCTV Cameras After Mass Shooting

ST. LUCY COUNTY, Florida. The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office is considering installing new security cameras in county parks after eight people were shot during the Fort Pierce Auto and Motorcycle Show last month.

No arrests were made in the detention case. innocent mother was killed at a Martin Luther King Jr. Day event.

The proposal will add cameras not only to Ealous Ellis Park, the filming location, but also to Pepper Park, Lakewood Park, Lonewood Stadium, and the Stan Blum Boat Ramp.

The cameras will allow police officers to monitor the broadcast inside the sheriff’s office crime center in real time and capture license plates in and out of certain areas.

“That would give us another source of information that was recorded right there, which is indisputable evidence of who was involved and what happened,” said St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Deputy Chief Brian Hester.

Hester said the cameras would have an initial cost of $125,000 and an annual cost of $15,000.

He said the funding would come from the county’s crime prevention program, a self-supporting fund that won’t cost taxpayers extra money.

So far, no one has been arrested in the fatal January 16 shooting that claimed the life of 29-year-old Nikitia Bryant.
