South Florida Fair Opens Friday With Dinosaur Theme

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Florida — The 111th South Florida Fair opens Friday with a dinosaur theme called Dino-Myte.

In addition, the rules for minors that were put into effect last week of last year’s fair are returning. On Friday and Saturday nights after 8:00 pm, anyone aged 17 or under must be accompanied by an adult and purchase a $40 ride wristband at the gate.

“What happens is that at 10 o’clock the buildings close and many, most of our entertainment shows end. So really the thing to do at the fair on Friday and Saturday nights after that time is ride the rides. So we just make sure that when people enter through the gate, they only come to ride the rides. So we will take care of it at the main entrance,” said Vicky Churis, President. and CEO of the South Florida Fair.

The idea is to keep large groups of teenagers from forming, which fair organizers say can sometimes be chaotic.

“A mom in our newsroom had a question. If she dropped her kids off at 6pm, what would happen at 8pm,” Churis was asked by WPTV Shining A Light reporter T.A. Walker.

“Nothing. They’re here, they’re inside, they’re enjoying the fair. They’ve probably done a lot already, you know, so it’s okay. It’s perfectly normal,” Shuris replied.

“Then how are you going to force minors after eight o’clock? Who do you check IDs of? How will it work? Walker asked.

“An adult must show ID to confirm, obviously, if in doubt, that they are over 18 years old. And this will also happen at the main gate,” Shuris replied.

“So if they’re already at the fair and they’re under 18, can they go?” Walker asked.

“They are ready to go. Yes, yes,” Shuris replied.

Accompanying persons do not need to follow minors, and if the minor is already on the premises before 20:00, they may remain at the fair.

The fair said attendance was 300,000 last year and they expect it to exceed that figure this year.
