South Beach Wine & Food Festival adds The Cookout hosted by Chef JJ Johnson to its 2023 program.

February is the time of love, as well as the time of delicious food. The South Beach Wine and Food Festival is back in Magic City again, and there’s still plenty of time to get your tickets.

This year they are launching an event that they hope will last for a while. Better get an appetite.

The South Beach Wine and Food Festival is back in 305!

Lee Schrager: “You can expect an action-packed weekend with wins, dinners, great entertainment, lots of fun people and a really awesome experience helping to raise funds and educate people.”

On Saturday, February 25th, they’re introducing a brand new event, The Cookout, hosted by Chef JJ Johnson.

Chef JJ Johnson: “Our slogan is always ‘What do you bring to the picnic?’ Because a picnic is a gathering place for black culture, you know, a lot of people of color, and also Hispanic culture, Caribbean culture, they ask, “What are you bringing?”

Cookout will bring together some of South Florida’s finest black chefs.

Chef JJ Johnson: “You’ll see a lot of different dishes from different types of black culture that will define The Cookout.”

Each chef will contribute to food that plays on comfort and nostalgia.

Chef Timon at The Katherine in Fort Lauderdale knows SoBe. This year he brings vegetables to cookery.

Chef Timon: “We cook caribbean fried pumpkin with tortillas and yogurt. We chose this dish because it was one of my highlights at Balloo Restaurant and The Katherine. It’s just a great vegetable dish that showcases our Caribbean culture and taste.”

Chef Amaris Jones introduces her place, Chick’N Jones, at Time Out Market in Miami Beach. She fries her famous hot honey chicken and tuna pasta salad.

Chef Amaris Jones: “Tuna and pasta salad has been going away for a very, very, very long time since I was 5 years old. If someone brought tuna and pasta salad or potato salad to a picnic or barbecue, that person had to be trusted.”

Chef Timon: “This event is not to be missed because you will experience all the wonderful diversity, culture and flavors of South Florida.”
