South Austin hit-and-run suspect sought by APD

Austin, Texas – The Austin Police Department (APD) is currently on the hunt for an individual believed to be linked to a hit-and-run incident that occurred in South Austin back in June.

According to APD, law enforcement officers swiftly responded to the crash site near the intersection of E. William Cannon Drive and Janes Ranch Road on June 1, just minutes before 12:30 p.m. Initial investigations indicate that a dark-colored Chevy Equinox veered into oncoming traffic, resulting in a collision with another vehicle. Shockingly, the unidentified male driver promptly fled the scene without making any effort to offer assistance or contact emergency services.

The collision resulted in one of the passengers inside the struck vehicle being transported to the hospital for medical treatment. Fortunately, their injuries were deemed non life-threatening, providing some relief amidst the disarray caused by the hit-and-run incident.

Authorities have provided a detailed description of the suspect as a Hispanic male aged between 20 and 30 years old, boasting a medium physique and sporting an extended goatee. As the investigation progresses, it has been disclosed that the individual was last seen donning various black attire pieces, including sunglasses, a baseball cap, a t-shirt, shorts, and sneakers.

In a bid to aid the ongoing investigation, APD has called upon the assistance of the public. Anyone possessing any pertinent information regarding the identity of the driver or the whereabouts of the vehicle is strongly encouraged to contact APD directly at 512-974-5017. Alternatively, individuals can choose to submit their tips anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program via austincrimestoppers.org or by dialing 512-472-8477. By providing crucial information leading to the arrest of the suspect, tipsters could potentially be entitled to a reward amounting to $1,000.

This incident serves to underscore the importance of personal responsibility and accountability on the road. Hit-and-run incidents not only endanger lives but also undermine the trust and safety of the community. As APD remains committed to resolving this case, they urge the community to remain vigilant and work together to ensure justice is served.
