‘SNL’ star Colin Jost names new Staten Island Ferry after the Titanic

He’s got that sinking feeling.

“Saturday Night Live” star Colin Jost revealed this weekend that the decommissioned Staten Island Ferry he purchased with fellow Staten Islander Pete Davidson will be named “Titanic 2.”

“This is why idiots should not be allowed to do things,” Jost said on Late Night with Seth Meyers Friday night.

“Pete and I bought this boat, and like — there’s so many immediate decisions you have to make,” he said. “You have to create a financial entity to deal with this boat.

“And so we’re on a call and I’m just like, ‘Alright, well how about Titanic 2?’” Jost said to laughs.

“And everyone on the call is like, ‘Oh that’s great, let’s do that!’”

Although the comedian had a laugh at taking the moniker of the doomed British Ocean liner that sank into the ocean, the name has not been a hit with insurers.

“We’re looking for insurance — which we have to buy because it’s a giant deathtrap boat,” he said. “And then every insurance company’s like, ‘It’s called Titanic 2?’”

Jost and Davidson, who left “SNL” last year after 8 seasons, purchased the decommissioned ferry in January, winning it at auction from the city for a mere $280,000. The pair hopes to turn the boat into a nightclub.

The pair’s business partner, real estate broker Paul Italia, told The Post they planned to turn the bay-bound behemoth into an entertainment venue — though details on the boat’s final location have been hard to come by.

“Financially, it’s going great — we are printing money,” Jost joked. “It is our own money, it’s ‘Ferry Bucks,’ but we are printing it desperately hoping that a dock will take it for payment.”

“So you don’t have a dock yet?” Meyers asked Friday.

“It’s basically docked!” Jost exclaimed. “It’s tied down.”

Jost took the ferry, formerly known as the John F. Kennedy, for a joyride in April, when the salvaged ship was towed to the Caddell dry dock on the northern coast of Staten Island for inspection.

At the time, the Staten Island native waxed poetic about the craft to The Post, recalling his high school commute aboard the ferry.

“So I had like, my kids that I met up with who are also commuting in and we had like our section that we would always sit in and stuff,” he said. “I went to Regis [High School], so Regis had a section. Xavier had a section. Kids that go to Stuyvesant had a section, La Guardia. It was kind of this weird, almost like a kind of cafeteria vibe.”

New York Department of State records show a Titanic 2 LLC having been formed just days after the boat was purchased — but as with most limited liability partnerships, state records are mum as to who controls the entity.
