Sleep inside a $769/night Airbnb inspired by ‘The Haunted Mansion’

Be transported into a 2003 Eddie Murphy film and a world of “de-fright” at this California rental.

A tricked-out stay is offering fear fans the opportunity to spend an evening within the world of “The Haunted Mansion.” Airbnb’s “Haunted Mansion inspired” Ghostly Retreat, located in Fullerton, is now taking reservations for its spooky accommodations.

“Leave the world of the living behind and cross over to this ghoulishly delightful [Haunted Mansion] inspired and frightfully immersive retreat,” the listing says. “You and your … loved ones, will encounter a plethora of [Haunted Mansion] replicas, ghostly illusions, and sights and sounds that will make you feel that you are truly spending the night in Disney’s Haunted Mansion.”

The movie and the rental are both based on the same-name haunted house attraction in Disneyland. The ride, which opened at Disneyland’s Magic Kingdom park in 1971, tours guests through a ghost-ridden compound complete with scary music and jump-inducing surprises.

For those who dare rent this Airbnb take on the dark ride, the Ghostly Retreat can host up to eight guests in its four bedrooms (which have five beds between them), each themed to the film. There’s a Master Gracey room, a Madame Leota Room, a Hatbox Ghost room and the two-bed Raven Room.

There are two bathrooms, a backyard equipped with a six-person jacuzzi and the possibility of “strange and frightening sounds echoing in the halls while you sleep” — although this is optional for those not seeking technology-induced spirits to disturb their slumber. (“These elements yet fun and part of the experience are able to be turned off remotely at any time upon request by the homeowner,” promises the listing.)

Open from Sept. 23 to Jan. 8, 2023, the lodgings cost $769 a night, with an additional $40 nightly fee per person for groups with more than six guests.
