Skydiver crashes into house after parachute fails to open

A skydiver recovers from a fall on the roof of a house when his parachute did not fully open.

The Oceanside Fire Department in California said the accident happened Friday at 5:06 p.m. local time.

Officials said a skydiver from GoJump Oceanside crashed into the roof of a two-story house on Toopal Drive before landing on the ground. The incident took place near Oceanside Airport. The first rescuers arrived in less than 10 minutes.

The victim, who, according to the description, was from 30 to 40 years old, received injuries incompatible with life. He was eventually airlifted to the hospital.

Because the parachute partially deployed, it prevented a full free fall, firefighters said, although the landing was uncontrollable and at an accelerated pace.

“Skydivers regularly jump from Oceanside Airport, and while these types of accidents do happen, they don’t happen often,” the fire department said in a statement to FOX.

Television station FOX has reached out to GoJump America for comment.
