Six places that turn desserts into d(airy)

Forget about Lactaide. With these delicious desserts, you will never suffer again.

It’s not easy being lactose intolerant. While others eat pint after pint of Ben & Jerry’s, you have to sit back, afraid of what the smallest piece of dairy product will do to you. Fear not – there are plenty of amazing dairy-free places to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Confectionery!

440 E. Ninth Street

The brainchild of Sweet Maresa’s and Lagusta’s Luscious, Confectionery! was opened together by two stores in 2016. Best known as the inventor of vegan pasta, Sweet Maresa’s makes baked goods for the store, including cookies, tartlets, muffins, brownies, and brownies. Lagusta’s Luscious embraces the chocolate and caramel side of things sold at the Confectionery! in boxes of various types and sizes. Some of the standout products are Strawberry Balsamic Caramel Box and Yuzu Cream Box.

Erin McKenna’s Bakery

248 Broome St.

Dedicated to the creationingredients friendly to many unfriendly stomachs”, at Erin McKenna’s Bakery, everything is made vegan and gluten-free. As far as donuts, cookies, and cakes go, the store doesn’t have much to offer. It’s also on Postmates, UberEats, Grubhub and DoorDash for all the couch potatoes craving something sweet.

love bakery

150 Ludlow St.

With offerings like Antioxidant Fudge Chocolate Cakes, Gut Snickerdoodle Cookies and Strengthening Chocolate Chip Cookies, The Love Bakery offers some of the healthiest desserts you’ll find in New York City. The bakery is vegan, gluten free, no refined sugar, and no vegetable oil, soy, eggs, or dairy. However, there is no storefront, and orders are only available for pickup or delivery via DoorDash, Grubhub, Caviar, Postmates, Seamless, and UberEats.

rough treats

158 Orchard St.

This store was opened in 2013 by Muay Thai contestant Watt Sribuonruang, who managed to satisfy her sweet tooth by creating plant-based raw desserts. The ice cream sandwiches caught my attention right away, but the shop is best known for its cakes. The most famous of these is Trisome, a gorgeous three-layer vanilla ice cream cake topped with raspberries – with a dairy-free ice cream option.

Bakery Clementine

395 Claesson Ave.

Clementine’s Bakery is worth a trip to Brooklyn. In addition to dessert, the bakery also serves breakfast, sandwiches, salads and wings. After dinner, you can choose from a variety of cakes, as well as savory and sweet pastries. Plus, everything is vegan, plant-based, and sustainable. This will not only satisfy your stomach but also help the planet.

16 handles

153 Second Ave.

While not all of their frozen yogurt options are dairy-free, I had to include 16 pens because this is my personal favorite. The store keeps changing flavors so you can walk around day after day and never get bored. There is also no need to worry about cross-contamination as everything is self-service. You can mix and match flavors – including dairy-free options – and choose your own toppings. There are many places in the city, the closest to the campus is located on Second Avenue.
