Sionic appoints Matthew Watson as Chief Technology Officer

Sionic, a leading provider of comprehensive and fast digital payment solutions, today announced the appointment of Matthew Watson as Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Watson has over 30 years of experience and a proven track record of successfully developing and delivering enterprise technology solutions across a wide range of verticals, including the travel, insurance, healthcare, automotive and prepaid industries. As CTO, he will oversee the company’s global IT initiatives as well as support the recent surge in consumer demand for faster, more secure and responsible payment solutions.

Sionic recently launched the industry’s first real-time payment service, allowing digital cash deposits from bank to bank at the point of sale. It comes at a time when merchants are responding to consumer demand by providing more mainstream digital payment options. In addition to instant funds, merchants cut costs by an average of 2% through high card swipe fees, an attractive proposition in a time of rising inflation.

“Sionic is really changing traditional payments at a defining moment in the fintech industry,” said Watson. “Given the current economic climate, consumers not only want faster payments, but also more responsible payment options that don’t push them into debt and don’t incur significant fees and surcharges. With Sionic Pay-By-Bank, merchants can provide secure, instant payments and reduce costs. Having worked with Sionic in my previous leadership role, I am honored to join an organization that is known for its innovation and ongoing contributions to the industry, as well as a solid track record of delivering proven and reliable solutions.”

Prior to joining Sionic, Matthew Watson was the CTO of InComm and helped build enterprise transaction processing systems for Target, Walmart, CVS and other global retailers. In addition, he has led connected car platform integration vendors for General Motors, providing end-to-end solutions to meet complex platform requirements. It has been recognized for its ability to strengthen marketing automation systems, deliver targeted content and offers to segmented customers in their cars and mobile devices, and boost automotive and mobile app adoption.

Ronald Herman, CEO of Sionic, said: “Leading the team at General Motors, Matt played a key role in integrating Sionic technology to help launch one of the industry’s first Internet-connected automotive platforms. His industry experience complements our leadership team and will be vital as we prepare for our organization’s next phase of rapid growth, accelerating product development, streamlining operations and transforming the payments market.”
