Shullette Cox Named New President of JAMPRO

Kingston, Jamaica – On Friday, February 10, 2023, Jamaica Advertising Corporation (JAMPRO), an agency of the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Trade (MIIC), through its Chairman Ms. Melanie Subrathy and Vice Chairman Hon. Jan C. Levy announced Ms. Schullette Cox to the JAMPRO staff as their new President.

The appointment of Ms. Cox to the Board of Directors is strategically aligned with the organization’s renewed focus on growing exports, expanding investment and improving the country’s business environment. She was first named Acting President on January 2, 2023, and led the JAMPRO group, which supported a recent ministerial mission to Guyana, which was hailed as very successful.

At the announcement of her full appointment to the position, Ms. Melanie Subrati, Chairman of JAMPRO, noted that she was pleased with the comprehensive recruitment process conducted by the JAMPRO Board of Directors and the final selection of a new president, further noting that “Shullett Cox has been instrumental in the successful implementation numerous JAMPRO initiatives that have helped JAMPRO and Jamaica become a global leader.

Remarkably, Schullett helped implement numerous government reforms that resulted in Jamaica’s global ranking increase in the Doing Business Report, including reforms that moved Jamaica from 21st in starting a business to 6th in the world and leaders in the Caribbean.” She went on to say, “I love that Shulett has the support and enthusiasm of the team, the respect of international funding agencies and the trust of the Board, and is a determined leader who loves to get things done and achieve goals. I would encourage the private sector to look to JAMPRO and Shullette for the incredible support that JAMPRO has to offer to help increase exports, increase investment and manage public services.”

Cox was named vice president in August 2013 and most recently led research, advocacy and project delivery. In this role, she led support for the implementation of investment projects and the development and promotion of policies and reforms to make it easier to do business in Jamaica. Notably, she has overseen various national programs, including the National Competitiveness Council, and led the development of key initiatives such as the National Investment Policy and the National Business Portal. She has gained recognition in the public and private sectors for her extensive knowledge and experience in economic development issues. She previously held positions at the Prime Minister’s Office in 2008 and at the Cannabis Licensing Authority, where she was interim CEO when it was created in 2015, concurrently with her role at JAMPRO.

History of success

Ms. Cox’s nomination for President is a success story for advancement in the public sector as she began her career at JAMPRO as an intern over 20 years ago.

Responding to the appointment, Cox said she is honored, grateful and encouraged to lead the JAMPRO team at this critical juncture in Jamaica’s economic development, when the country is poised for extensive economic growth. Cox also stated that “I look forward to working with staff, the Board of Directors, the ministry and our public and private sector partners to significantly increase Jamaica’s exports, substantially increase local and foreign investment in the economy, and actively advocate for improvements.” in the business environment that we are striving for.”

Ms. Cox will also work closely with key organizations such as the HEART/NSTA Trust and others to expand the Jamaican workforce, ensuring that Jamaicans, and in particular Jamaican youth who are currently out of work, can reap the benefits of training. , apprenticeship, certification and job opportunities that are available.

Ms. Cox holds an MA in Development Economics from Williams College, where she studied as an OAS Scholar, and a BS (Hons) in Economics and International Relations from the University of the West Indies. In addition, Cox is a board member of the Jamaica Development Bank Credit Enhancement Fund (CEF), the Cannabis Licensing Authority (CLA), and the Jamaica International Financial Services Authority (JIFSA).
