Shooting suspect arrested after Galveston police chased him with three children in a car, police said.

A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that wounded a man in Galveston on Saturday.

Galveston police say the shooting occurred on February 25 at the 7200 block of Heards Lane.

Authorities say that when they arrived at the scene, they found 35-year-old resident Charson Kinchen in the parking lot with gunshot wounds to the stomach. Kinchen was taken to UTMB Health Hospital in Galveston for treatment for life-threatening injuries, where he remains in critical condition.

According to eyewitnesses, an unknown man with dreadlocks fled the scene in a black Dodge Challenger.

Officers say they found a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle near the 6100 block of Avenue J. Police attempted to stop the vehicle when the applicant began to evade the police.

The suspect then reportedly led the police in pursuit to Lamarck before the car stopped.

The suspect was 28-year-old Texas City resident Jamarcus Coleman. Police also said three minors were in the car at the time of the stop.

Coleman was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, $100,000 bail recommended; “Vehicle Evasion”, $20,000 recommended bond; Three counts of endangering a child, a recommended bail of $5,000 each.

He was taken to the Galveston County Jail for detention.
