Several school buses caught fire in northwest Dallas

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) — Thursday afternoon, a fire that involved at least three school buses sent thick black smoke into the air in northwest Dallas.

Firefighters received a call around 3:30 p.m. at a warehouse along southbound service road I-35 near Manana Drive.

The Dallas Fire and Rescue Department said an explosion was heard from the scene. The vehicles involved were later confirmed to be CNG vehicles and the audible explosion came from one or more of these tanks.

What caused the bus fire has not yet been reported. The exact number of trucks and buses has not yet been determined. There were no reports of injuries.

The crews briefly raised a second alarm, but were able to contain the flames.

Traffic on I-35 slowed to a crawl as motorists stopped to watch the flames and smoke.
