Seminole County to Address Oviedo Road Extension Proposal for Traffic Relief

Seminole County in Florida has announced that it will convene a public meeting on Tuesday evening to deliberate the potential extension of Slavia Road in Oviedo. County officials propose extending Slavia Road to the east, creating an additional route for drivers traveling from Aloma Avenue to Alafaya Trail.

According to the county’s website, the primary objective of this study is to evaluate potential alignments, including the impact on right of way, environment, stormwater requirements, and cost. Seminole County Public Works has highlighted the area’s struggles with heavy traffic volume, and the proposed extension aims to alleviate congestion along Chapan Road and Mitchell Hammock Road.

The plan being considered entails the construction of a four-lane roadway stretching just over a mile in length. Multiple plans are currently under consideration, as depicted in the accompanying visuals.

Oviedo has been grappling with traffic issues since last year, prompting Mayor Megan Sladek to encourage residents to consider alternative modes of transportation such as walking or biking to mitigate the gridlock plaguing the city.

The public meeting is scheduled to take place at the Oviedo Mall Community Room, commencing at 6 p.m. A presentation on the study will begin at 6:15 p.m., followed by an opportunity for attendees to provide comments and engage with project team members. Alternatively, residents can participate virtually by registering in advance through the provided online platform.
