  • 13th of January – Nova, a female clouded leopard, has disappeared from her enclosure, triggering a “Code Blue” alarm at the zoo indicating that a non-dangerous animal is out of its habitat. After a day of searching, Nova was found in the zoo. Officials described the gap in her habitat as “suspicious”. Sergeant Warren Mitchell of the Dallas Police Department said investigators at the crime scene determined that the break in Nova’s fence was intentional.

  • January 14 – The Dallas Police Department said in a statement that after the cut was found in a clouded leopard enclosure, zoo workers showed investigators a similar cut in the zoo’s langur monkey habitat. The monkeys were found safe inside the habitat. The department said it was investigating the rupture in the hull as “criminal disorderly conduct.”
  • January 22 – An endangered vulture named Ping has died at the zoo under circumstances officials have described as “unusual”. The zoo said it had alerted the Dallas Police Department of the vulture’s death. “The animal care team is heartbroken at this huge loss,” the zoo said. “The circumstances of the death are unusual and the death does not appear to have been due to natural causes.” The zoo said it added additional CCTV cameras and increased night security.
  • January 30 – The zoo said that two of its emperor tamarins have apparently been taken away. Zoo officials said it was “clear that the habitat had been intentionally compromised” and reported the breach to the Dallas Police Department. Investigators confirmed that the cut in the fence was intentional. The police said in a statement that the monkeys were apparently taken from the enclosure and added that they were looking for a person of interest to the case.
