Second brother killed in broad daylight shooting near NYC Popeyes

On Sunday, police said a 37-year-old man who was injured in a broad daylight shootout that left his brother dead in front of the Bronx Popeyes has since died.

Devren Smith of the Bronx was one of four people injured in a shooting around 2:30 p.m. Friday in front of a restaurant on East Tremont Avenue, near Hughes Avenue, according to police.

His brother, 24-year-old Jeremiah Smith, was shot in the stomach and died at St. Barnabas’ Hospital, police said.

According to police, the shooting broke out during an argument of unknown nature.

Two men, José Parilla, 32, and Salvatore River, 51, were arrested in connection with the shooting.

Authorities said Parilla was arrested on Saturday and charged with murder, attempted murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.

Rivera, 51, was arrested on Friday and charged with murder, manslaughter, assault and illegal possession of a weapon, police said.

According to police, a 36-year-old man was shot in the ankle and a 58-year-old in the buttock. Both were expected to survive.
