School canceled Friday after 6 students were hospitalized due to ‘unbearable smell’ at Caney Creek High School

Conroe, Texas – An unidentifiable odor that has been affecting Caney Creek High School in Conroe, Texas for the past few days has led to the cancellation of school on Friday, May 5th, 2023. The school district officials announced the closure of school to allow for a thorough investigation into the mysterious scent, which resulted in six students being hospitalized on Thursday.

According to reports, the unfamiliar scent led to 14 students feeling ill, with six of them being transported to the hospital. The hospitalized students are in a stable condition. School administrators initially believed that the odor was caused by a gas leak, prompting the Caney Creek Fire Department to respond to the campus. The Woodlands HAZMAT team also joined the investigation.

The Caney Creek Fire Marshal suspects that the odor could be the result of a prank or some type of spray, but they are yet to identify the exact cause. The investigation into the source of the unexplainable odor is ongoing, and the Dean of Caney Creek Independent School District has requested anyone with information to come forward and contact campus administration or the Anonymous Alerts app.

In a statement released by the Caney Creek HS Dean, Jeff Stichler, the investigation is ongoing, with no results from the smoke test yet. “Our investigation into the source of the odor continues as there have been no results with the smoke test. We encourage anyone with information to contact campus administration or make a report through the Anonymous Alerts app. Caney Creek HS will not have school tomorrow, Friday, May 5, to allow contractors to continue their investigation into the source. Just as we did during this situation, we will update you as soon as we know more.”

For the safety of the students, the school will remain closed on Friday, May 5th, 2023, to allow contractors to investigate the source of the odor. The school district officials have promised to keep the community informed about any new information that may come up.
