School Bus Crash Injures Six Middle School Students

Six students and a bus driver were hospitalized after a school bus collided with an 18-wheeler on the west side of San Antonio. The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of Loop 1604 and US 90. According to Southwest ISD officials, there were twenty Scobee Middle School students on board the bus at the time of the crash.

District officials expressed their concern for the injured students and bus driver, offering their thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery. They also assured the community that the school district is actively working with authorities to investigate the cause of the accident.

Eyewitness Marithea Mendez, who was driving home at the time, described the crash as a loud boom. She witnessed several students being helped out of the back of the bus by multiple drivers before first responders arrived at the scene. Mendez recalled the emotional scene of siblings hugging and crying, highlighting the traumatic nature of the incident.

A dash cam video provided by Mendez showed debris scattered along the road in the aftermath of the crash. The video captured the extent of the damage caused by the collision.

They reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety of students and staff, stating that appropriate safety measures and protocols would continue to be implemented.
