Scalise says GOP is working on resolution condemning Biden’s handling of China spy flight

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise said Tuesday Republicans “could” pass legislation condemning the Biden administration’s handling of a Chinese spy balloon that carried sensors and surveillance equipment.

We are currently working on legislation regarding the Chinese spy balloon. Four different committees are involved, Scalise told Fox News Digital during a press conference ahead of Biden’s address to Congress on Tuesday. “And as you can imagine, every committee is working, even though we haven’t even had secret briefings yet. “

“You know, the G8 briefing that was supposed to take place hasn’t been called yet. We’re trying to have a full briefing with all members of Congress. [House] Speaker [Kevin] McCarthy asked for a full briefing for all members of Congress to find out what really happened,” he said.

“So, we are still collecting more facts as we work through this process. So we may have a piece of legislation, but it’s not finalized yet,” the GOP leader said.

Over the weekend, a senior GOP source told Fox News that consideration of the resolution was “not 100%”.

The source said the resolution was “still a work in progress” and that many lawmakers have questions about the balloon and may want answers before voting on the resolution.

While Republicans are likely to support the resolution, the question is whether Republicans can win the support of moderate Democrats from swing districts. Forcing Democrats to vote for the measure may be reason enough for Republicans to push for a vote.
